As we continue to celebrate our principals, it is important to note that the role has significantly changed over the last two decades. Quality research proves that just after a highly-effective teacher, a highly-effective principal has the biggest effect on student achievement. Our principals are focused on both student growth AND teacher growth. They observe teachers and provide timely feedback around teachers' growth plans and best practices. As instructional co-leaders in our schools, principals are responsible for implementation of our curricula with district-approved resources. Great teachers + great principals = high student achievement!

Today our teachers collaborated in their professional learning communities for about four hours. Our focus is on ensuring a "guaranteed and viable curriculum," which means we guarantee each child gets high quality instruction no matter who their teacher may be, and that our curriculum is capable of being taught in a typical school year. This afternoon, some teams worked on reviewing and unpacking the priority Michigan academic standards that form our curriculum, while other worked on vertically aligning those standards across grade levels. We know that half days can be a challenge for families, and we appreciate your partnership as we continue to grow our professional practices. #OneHive

Reminder: If you want your child to be able to use the School Based Health Center this school year, an updated consent MUST be completed. The ones completed last year are now expired and a new one must be completed to continue any services (medical and behavioral health.) You can do so by completing the paper copy sent home with students and send back, click the link below or access the link on the Harrison Schools website. Also, other than urgent issues like sprains, bandaids or things like Tylenol for pain, students must have a parent/guardian make an appointment to be seen at the clinic.
