PLAN Test

The PLAN® program helps 10th graders build a solid foundation for future academic and career success and provides information needed to address school districts' high-priority issues. It is a comprehensive guidance resource that helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation years.

PLAN can help all students—those who are college-bound as well as those who are likely to enter the workforce directly after high school.

As a "pre-ACT" test, PLAN is a powerful predictor of success on the ACT. At the same time, many schools recognize the importance of PLAN testing for all students, as it focuses attention on both career preparation and improving academic achievement.

Typically, PLAN is administered in the fall of the sophomore year.

The HHS PLAN test for all 10th graders is scheduled for:  October 9th, 2008

The PLAN and PSAT tests can qualify students for Dual Enrollment.

PSAT Test  (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test)

PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test™. It also gives you a chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.

PSAT Fee = $13.00

Also, contact your guidance office for a copy of the Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT to help you prepare before test day.

    ACT/MME (Michigan Merit Examination)

The Michigan Merit Examination is the state assessment administered to all students enrolled in Grade 11 in March of each year. The MME consists of three major components: the ACT college entrance examination, the WorkKeys job skills assessments in reading and mathematics, and Michigan assessments in mathematics, science, social studies, and persuasive writing. The combined MME assessment measures student learning in the Michigan high school standards, benchmarks, and core content expectations.

The Michigan Merit Examination (MME) is administered in the spring. The Michigan Department of Education prepared the schedule below in cooperation with ACT, taking into account a variety of issues including ACT national testing dates, religious holy days and statewide high school events. The diversity of school and community needs such as traditional Spring Breaks was also considered although it was not possible to avoid conflicts for all schools. Dates are contingent upon ACT final approval.

These tests replace the old MEAP High School Test and they are required for graduation by
the Harrison Board of Education.

Michigan Promise Scholarship

Public Act 479 of 2006 signed into law by Governor Granholm on December 21, 2006, provides up to $4,000 to high school graduates for successfully completing two years of postsecondary education beginning with the high school graduating class of 2007.

SAT TEST (Scholastic Aptitude Test)
This test is often required for students planning on attending a college out of the state of Michigan.  Most HHS students elect to take the ACT because it is administered locally and all college and universities in Michigan will accept either test for admission purposes.  See the counseling office for more information regarding the SAT.
