Career Pathways Program
Mission Statement:
|
"All Students
completing the Michigan education system will have the necessary academic,
technical and work behavior skills for success in a career of their choice and
life long learning." |
| |
|
The Career Pathways system gives students a
practical framework to help them decide on and achieve their own career goals. |
|
Career Pathways are six broad groupings of courses defined by the State of
Michigan that share similar characteristics. They share employment
requirements and many common interests, strengths, and competencies.
The
Harrison High School Program of Studies is designed to offer students a
pathway to success. In the middle school, students are exposed to Career
Pathways and select a Career Pathway to explore that meets their academic
potential and career interests. As time passes and interests change,
students may change their pathway, taking the skills they have learned
with them. The Career Pathway will provide a focus and the foundation for
the student’s learning experience. Students will develop a four-year high
school Educational Development Plan (EDP) that will maximize their post
high school potential and opportunities. These EDP’s will then be updated
yearly during career units in a variety of classes and as needed.
Harrison High School staff has developed Career Pathway Guides for students to
use during the registration process. The Career Pathway Guides include
required courses for grades 9-12 and pathway electives relevant to their
chosen pathways. Students and parents should study the Career Pathway
Guides in the
Program of
Studies. Students may use them as
guides for high school registration for career level entry.
Students selecting the
Professional
career fields will be considering a four-year college/university program
as a requirement for career level entry. Students selecting the
Technical career
fields will be considering a community college, technical/trade school or
other post secondary training for career level entry. |
