Dec. 4-6, Principal, B. Elliott, and the Harrison Hornet Mascot, had the honor of representing Hillside at a meeting in Washington, D.C. The Center on Education Policy (CEP) has been doing a study on several schools around the country, including Hillside, for the last five years. Out of 48 schools that were failing at the time (in restructuring), only 11 were able to exit restructuring. Hillside has been out of restructuring for four years. Seven principals and I were asked to give a report about how we improved our student achievement. It was amazing how similar our reports were although we were from all over the country! The CEP is a nonprofit group that studies educational issues to try to impact decisions and policies made at the U.S. Department of Education. Below are some sights that Hillside’s hornet saw in our Nation's Capital!
