ANNUAL FINE, PERFORMING, & APPLIED ARTS NIGHT

displays the wonderful work our students do for the Community to enjoy.

ART
I
9th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Art I will cover what goes into creating
works of art, as well as the development of the skills and knowledge used to
create art. The four disciplines of art (history, practice, criticism and
aesthetics) are an important aspect of the class, as are the class critiques of
homework assignments.

ART
II
9th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Art I
Art II will allow the student to develop
technical skills, but will also encourage them to develop their minds and
imaginations. Print making, watercolors, graphic design, sculpture, figure and
perspective drawing, and etc. will be possible areas of study that are not
covered in Art I. Community service projects, displays, and art competitions
will be an important part of this class. Preparation for careers in art will be
an ongoing process.

Ceramics
I
9th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Ceramics I will introduce the basic
ceramic techniques to the student--such as pinch pots, coil construction and
slab construction. The student will also start working on the potter's wheel and
learn how to load, fire and unload the kiln. Prepared glazes will also be used
in this class, in addition to various colorants.

Ceramics
II
10th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Ceramics I
Students will explore in-depth the
possibilities the various hand construction techniques offered in combination
with wheel-thrown pots and other media. They will also develop their throwing
techniques and be responsible for loading and firing their pieces. Texture and
glaze-making will be stressed, as supplies allow.

Art History
9th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Art History will cover the artistic
histories of multiple cultures from around the world. This course will explore
Art from prehistoric, world civilizations. This course also takes a look at 20th
century artists, as well as current movements in the Art world. This class will
include research, discussions, as well as presentations on artists and movements
throughout history.

Advanced Art Studies
10th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Permission of teacher. Two previous Art classes preferred.
Application form must be turned into counseling office during special
registration.
Advanced Art Studies will be an
individual exploration of the Art world. Projects and goals will be developed by
collaboration between the student and teacher. Students will be free to
investigate any aspect of Art that they wish, in order to improve their skills
and knowledge of
Art. Students will use self-critiques, peer-critiques, class discussions, and
one on one interactions to understand their work and others. This class will
also be preparing the student for college and careers in the Art world through
development of portfolios. May be taken up to two
times per year.

Beginning
Drama
9th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
The basics of theater vocabulary
combined with theatrical activities and mini in-class
performances are introduced. There is a focus on character analysis, script
analysis, and theatre genre’s as well as theatre etiquette, theater safety and
technological support. Written oral and performance assessments are utilized.

Advanced
Drama
10th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2
credit
Prerequisite:
Beginning Drama
Students will advance their acting
skills, knowledge of theatrical organization and participate in theater make-up,
intense character and script analysis as well as stage craft. They will
participate in in-class performances assessments and a public performance is
possible.

Band
9th - 12th, a year long class consisting of 1
hour per trimester, 3 blocks
High School band is a
performance-based class, in which students will learn music theory and a variety
of musical styles. Students are expected to attend summer marching camp at
Harrison High School and participate in the marching band that performs at all
home football games and other invitationals.
The concert band will begin after
the last football game. Members of the concert band are required to participate
in festivals and concerts throughout the year. Other performances are announced
in advance during the school year. Students will also have the opportunity to
perform solos and small ensembles at festivals, school and community events.
*There is also an opportunity to play in the Jazz Band, which performs several
times throughout the school year. This class meets at a scheduled time prior to
the school day.

Band
Performance Schedule

Chorus
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Chorus is a class for
students interested in developing their singing voice and musical ability. This
performance group will specialize in refining beginning vocal techniques.
Advanced vocal techniques, ensemble singing, sight-reading and music theory will
be introduced. Students will be required to participate in one or two
extra-curricular performances and concerts each semester. Students will have the
opportunity to perform in small ensembles at the MSVMA Solo and Ensemble
Festival and MSVMA Choral Festival at both District and State level.

Chamber Singers
2 Trimesters long,
1 full credit
Chamber Singers is an
advanced singing ensemble for students interested in further developing their
vocal talent. This performance group will specialize in refining: advanced vocal
techniques, ensemble singing, and intermediate sight-reading skills and music
theory. Students will be required to participate in two or three
extra-curricular performances and concerts each semester. Required participation
at community events will be announced in advance throughout the school year.
Students will have the opportunity to perform in small ensembles at the MSVMA
Solo and Ensemble Festival and MSVMA Choral Festival at both the District and
State level. Students may be enrolled in Chamber Singers only by audition with
the Director.

Drafting I
9th - 12th,
2 Trimesters long,
1 full credit
This course covers basic
mechanical and architectural drafting, mechanical drawings include sketching,
lettering, pictorial drawings, multi-view projection and dimensioning. The
second semester is devoted to architectural drafting. Drawings include floor
plans, elevations, and wall framing. Throughout the year students may have the
opportunity to work with a CAD (Computer Aided Design) program. Responsibility
is encouraged by practicing good working habits and proper care and use of
drafting equipment.

INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION COURSES PER YEAR**

Drafting II
10th - 12th, 2 Trimesters long, 1 full credit
Prerequisite: Drafting I
This course will be an
introduction to Auto Cad. Students will follow step by step instructions to
learn the commands and application of the Auto Cad program. After learning these
commands students will begin to develop and setup their own drawings, utilizing
the basic drafting and design skills learned in Drafting I. Due to limited space
instructor approval is required.

INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION COURSES PER YEAR**

Beginning
Woodworking
9th - 12th, 2 Trimesters long,
1 full credit
Beginning woodworking is an introduction
to the materials, tools, and processes used in woodworking. Students will learn
about the major woodworking machines, their proper setup and safe operation. In
addition students will learn about gluing, sanding, finishing, and the general
order of operations. Each student will complete two general woodworking projects
before the end of their first trimester. In their second trimester students will
begin investigating the wood lathe, laminating, bending, and wood joinery in
detail. Students will complete two intermediate projects which may be projects
such as trout nets, chess boards, end tables, coffee tables, lathe turnings, or
other projects with instructor approval. Students will be responsible for the
material costs for the projects that they make to take home.

INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION COURSES PER YEAR**

Advanced
Woodworking
2 Trimesters long, 1 full credit
Prerequisite: Beginning Woodworking
After reviewing machine and shop safety,
advanced woodworking students will be expected to construct projects that are
more complex and detailed. There will be a focus on project planning and design.
These projects may be furniture and/or cabinets and should incorporate frame and
panel construction, doors, drawers, or legs. Advanced woodworking may be taken
for repeat credit, but students are expected to continue to build on and develop
their woodworking skills.

INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION COURSES PER YEAR**

Residential
Wiring
9th - 12th, 1
Trimester long, 1/2 credit
9th - 12th Grades
This class is an introduction to
residential wiring. Students will learn the standards, basic codes, safety
practices, and requirements household electrical systems. They will discuss the
measurement and costs of electrical service. Students will then learn basic
wiring processes,
draw wiring diagrams, and use the proper tools and materials to develop basic
circuits.

INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION COURSES PER YEAR**

Residential
Construction
9th - 12th, 1
Trimester long, 1/2 credit
This class is an introduction to
residential construction. Students will learn about the many aspects of building
a residential structure from planning to finishing. Each student will also be
expected to build a scale model house following a blueprint. Larger construction
projects may be possible.

INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION COURSES PER YEAR**

Freshman
Physical Education
Required in 9th grade;
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Physical Education is designed to develop
physical fitness, increase skill in sport activities, develop muscular
coordination and poise, develop individual skill, promote cooperation with other
students through teamwork and just have fun. In each unit the student will be
instructed in the rules, safety, strategy, equipment care and scoring
techniques. At the end of each unit all students will be tested on skill and
written work. Further evaluation will come from attitude, participation and
improvement. A change of clothes and proper footwear will be required of all
students.

Advanced
Physical Education
10th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Satisfactory participation in Fresh. P.E.
10th -12th graders may take only 1 PE course per trimester.
Physical Education is designed to develop
physical fitness, increase skill in sport activities, develop muscular
coordination and poise, develop individual skills, promote cooperation with
other students through teamwork and just have fun. In each unit the student will
be instructed in the rules, safety, strategy, equipment care and scoring
techniques. At the end of each unit all students will be tested on skill and
written work. Further evaluation will come from attitude, participation and
improvement. Students may enroll in additional Physical Education for a total of
three trimesters. A change of clothes and proper footwear will be required of all
students.

Body
Conditioning & Mechanics
10th - 12th, One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Freshman P. E.
10th -12th graders may take 1 PE course per trimester.
This course is for the student who wants to
go beyond Advanced Physical Education. It is designed to develop strength,
endurance and skill in students so they may more successfully compete in
interscholastic competition. Other training concepts will include proper
nutrition, aerobic fitness and the role of exercise in relief of stress.

Health
Education
Required in 9th grade;
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Health Education is a required freshmen
level course. It will explore such topics as nutrition and physical fitness,
character counts pillars and values, disease prevention, human sexuality,
HIV/AIDS, human reproduction, substance abuse, tobacco, and refusal skills.

Parenthood
Education
9th - 12th,
2 Trimesters long, 1 full credit
This course is the study
of heredity, yourself, dating, engagement, marriage, parenthood (including
discipline and parenting styles), and child development. Topics included will be
the life cycle beginning with pregnancy and the birth process ending with death
and the grieving process. We will analyze and understand the developmental
changes that occur through out a child’s life. Projects such as Baby Think It
Over will be incorporated into the class.

Nutritional
Education I
10th - 12th,
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
This course is the study
of nutrition, food groups, convenience foods, fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy
and meat. The focus will not be on food preparation however, basic kitchen
principles and cooking skills will be introduced.

Nutritional
Education II
10th - 12th,
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Nutrition I
This course is the study
of cooking terms, measurements, table setting, manners, consumer decision making
as it relates to grocery shopping, labeling laws, and food supply. This class
will also learn and work on food preparation.

Personal & Family Living
10th - 12th,
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
This course is the study of growth and
development dealing with various aspects in life. Including but not limited to
physical, emotional, and mental growth. Other topics discussed will be self
awareness, interpersonal relationships, and personal health.

Consumer Education
10th - 12th,
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
This course is the study of the skills
needed to be a successful consumer. Some topics included will be budgets,
financial decisions, purchasing a car, and applying for a loan. Skills such as
how to balance a checkbook and how to calculate sales tax on products will also
be discussed.

Success - 4 - Students
9th -10th;
One trimester long, 1/2 credit
This course will teach students time
management, study skills, listening skills, note taking, how to study, and test
taking strategies. Other topics that will be covered include learning styles;
memory skills; prioritizing and decision making; reading faster; critical and
creative thinking. A unit on Character Counts working with activities around the
6 pillars will be included. This course will be beneficial to students to
increase the probability of success in high school. Some grade level and career
assessments may occur within this class.
